Jim Spooner Field is the home of the UWF baseball team. The stadium opened as Argonaut Field in 1981 with a seating capacity of 1,000. $40,000 was spent on the facility, adding new fencing, a backstop, dugouts and fencing protection. The first game was played February 28, 1981 against Alabama A&M.

The first game was played February 28, 1981 against Alabama A&M.On August 22, 2008 the stadium was renamed Jim Spooner Field in honor of former UWF baseball head coach Jim Spooner. Coach Spooner led the UWF baseball program from 1983-2006. He compiled 688 wins and led the Argos to the NAIA World Series in 1989. He was inducted into the Pensacola Sports Association Hall of Fame in 2006 and to the UWF Hall of Fame in 2008.
Jim Spooner Field underwent a major renovation in 2003. Chair back seating was put in behind home plate, bleachers were put down the left field and right field lines, suites were added down the right field line and party decks were built behind both dugouts and in left field. In 2012 Jim Spooner Field underwent renovation replacing wind screens, fencing and adding new UWF signage around the facility.
Jim Spooner Field has served as host of the 2011 NCAA South Regional tournament, the panhandle high school All-Star baseball games, baseball summer camps and various baseball tournaments.
